5 Things to Do in Louisville this Fall

5 Things to Do in Louisville this Fall

From apple orchards to pumpkin patches, there are so many fun things to do here in Louisville in the fall. But if you’re new in town, there are five events you definitely won’t want to miss.

Before we get into it, a quick note on fall foliage…

My personal favorite place to leaf peep is Jefferson Memorial Forest, over in southwest Jefferson County. It’s easily one of the best places in the city to enjoy Kentucky’s spectacular autumn colors.

On the event front, I highly recommend Boo at the Zoo. The folks at the Louisville Zoo turn the grounds into a Halloween wonderland, complete with costumes, trick-or-treating, rides, and special attractions. It’s a fun way for folks of all ages to get into the spirit of fall. (Nothing spooky to see here!) Just be sure to get your tickets in advance for ages three and up.

Another family favorite is NuLu Fest, which is held in the NuLu (or “New Louisville”) district. It’s a fantastic celebration of local art, music, and food. You can stroll through the street fair, check out the artists and vendors, and taste some amazing local cuisine. This is a community-focused event, perfect for new and established neighbors alike.

Now, if you like a good light show, you can’t miss the Jack O’ Lantern Spectacular. I attend this event every — single — year. It’s that good. Thousands of jack o’ lanterns, all intricately carved by artists, are lit up, and you’re invited to walk through the park and experience the magic. Ah-mazing.

Also for the art enthusiast: the St. James Court Art Show. Local, national, and regional artists come together for one weekend to display their best work. You’ll also be treated to fair food (rain or shine!), and admission is free, so there’s no barrier to entry. Just walk around and enjoy!

Finally, you can’t miss BOWMANFEST. It’s held at Bowman Field and includes great food, live music, and an awesome community atmosphere.

So, get out there, pick some pumpkins, and enjoy all that this season has to offer!
